Toboggan Enhancement Seminar January 26th

Hello Fellow Toboggan Instructors,

The next planned Toboggan Event has a date and location! We will be holding a Toboggan Enhancement Seminar on Saturday, January 26th at Tyrol Basin, starting from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM. I plan (dependant on numbers) to have a group of instructors, one for senior candidates and another for general patrollers wanting to refresh general tobogganing skills.

This year we are implementing a $10 fee- this helps offset program costs, from Toboggan maintence/replacement to coffee and doughnuts for meetings.  We have gone a long time without having fees, and feel like this nominal fee will keep our program quality up, without making the Seminars cost-prohibitive.

Registration for the event is at the following website: http://www.nsp-southcentral.org/Library/Library/library.htm Click on the Alpine Programs registration form link. Note that the date for the TES is incorrect. The correct date is the 26th of January.

Return the form to me electronically or via snail mail. Payment may accompany the form, or you can pay the day of the event.

Plan also to stay for a "debriefing" at the Black Diamond Bar. Its a great opportunity to actually debrief, plus to thank Tyrol for being so generous this year with hosting so many programs.

Please forward this to your hill's email lists, so we can be sure to attract anyone who might be interested.

Contact me with any questions you might have.

Thanks,
Keith

Ski enhancement and toboggan refresher 2005

Hello Fellow Patrollers,   Well it is that time of the year again and as we prepare our bodies we also need to prepare the patrol for a good season.  In trying to  accomplish this, Chad Lorensen and Mary Woodman are putting together  an on hill refresher that will be required of all patrollers.  This  is a refresher, not a test.  Just as we refresh our first aid skills  yearly, it has come to the attention of the patrol that we need to  do the same with our skiing and toboggan skills.  The ski  enhancement will be run by PSIA instructors (monetary tips are  appreciated!) with the focus being on balance.  This is simply an  opportunity for all of us to learn and enhance our skiing  performance.  The toboggan refresher will be run through ski patrol  with the help of several toboggan instructors.  This portion is  simply to refresh and enhance our skills, it is not a test.  Below  is a schedule of when the ski enhancement and toboggan refreshers  will be taking place.  Please be prompt and if you are unable to  make it to one of the refreshers contact Chad or Mary.SKI ENHANCEMENTDecember 10th – 16th      Please meet by ski school for a one and a half hour enhancement focused on balance.  This seminar will take place during each shift  through dates mentioned.  Patrollers from the toboggan-instructing  group will help cover the hill during busier shifts.  Mon-Fri day shift  10:00-11:30amSat-Sun day shift   9:30-11:00am (first half of shift)                11:00-12:30 (second half of shift)All night shifts    6:00-7:30TOBOGGAN REFRESHERJanuary 8th – 21st    Monday through Friday we will be starting at 6:00pm and wrapping up at 8:30pm.  We ask that the day crew please stay late  and the night crew to be on time.  We will have extra patrollers  there to cover the night crew's shift.   Saturday and Sunday we will  be holding a day and night refresher.  The day refresher will be  starting at 9:00 and ending at 11:30, the evening will be from 6:00- 8:30. The schedule is as follows:Sun, Jan. 8th – 9:00-11:30amMon 9th, Wed 11th, Fri 13th – 6:00-8:30pmSat 14th 9:00-11:30amSun 15th 6:00-8:30pmTue 17th, Thu 19th – 6:00-8:30pmSat 21st – 6:00-8:30pmThank you to everyone in advance for taking the time to make this season even better.  We look forward to seeing all of you on the snow.Think snow,Chad Lorensen and Mary Woodman

Clinic with Michael Rogan PSIA Demo Team

From Bill Davis, former DH patroller and another ski nut.  We need 16 people from Tyrol to positively commit for this to fly, plus interest from the other hills.  I know I'll sign up if we get enough, I need all the help I can get.  And, I am doing the ski enhancement seminars also.  Please send me a note only if you're interested.  Bill can answer questions also.Regards,Doug MeierI am working closely with Michael Rogan PSIA Demo Team Member to bring him to Wisconsin for a 3 day "Road Show." One day each at Devil's Head, Cascade and Tyrol. Most likely a Friday, Saturday, Sunday - exact dates TBD. Intent is to open up this lesson opportunity only to the 3 resort Ski Instructors and Ski Patrollers.  If there were any open slots - vacancies could be opened up to the general public - however, we have a strong preference to fill these lessons with only professionals. As you know Michael has been a PSIA Demo Team member for a number of years and he has teamed up with Stu Campbell. Together they have been featured in SKI magazine instruction articles for well over a year. Most recently they co authored a couple of articles in the November 2005 SKI magazine. Michael Rogan is also listed as one of the top 100 SKI magazine instructors - November 2005 issue.  At each resort for 1 day Michael would conduct a 3 hour morning lesson (9:00 - 12:00 p.m.) and a 3 hour afternoon lesson (1:00p.m. - 4:00p.m.). Actual lesson times are flexible. Group size not to exceed 8 skiers per group lesson - to ensure adequate interaction with all "students." That means only 16 lesson slots each day at each resort. 8 lesson slots in the morning and 8 in the afternoon. 3 hour lesson cost $40.00. By holding the event at each resort - pros from that resort would not need to purchase a lift ticket to go along with the lesson - keeping lesson cost as low as possible. $40! .00 for a 3 hour lesson with this caliber of instructor is one of the best deals anyone will see around this area this ski season. Michael books private 1 hour lessons for about $100.00 an hour. Each lesson group would collectively determine lesson objectives. Mogul skiing, perfecting your shaped ski techniques - whatever - Michael has a quiver loaded with various lesson plans he can adapt to fit any group need. I have been in lessons with Michael - this format works extremely well - he does an exceptional job of meeting individual and group needs. This is still in the preliminary stages of planning - more will be determined after we know how much interest there is.  Thanks,Bill Davis Email address is billski "at" yahoo.com

Regional Women's Clinic

On February 19th at Cascade we are holding the first Regional Women's Clinic.  This is a chance for women to improve their ski and toboggan skills, while sharing ideas and fun times. Do you know of any women on your patrol who might be interested in attending?  The nominal fee of $20 includes PSIA instruction and a warm lunch.  We will be accepting applications thru the end of January.  Just have interested parties fill out the form in the last issue of the SWEEP and mail to me along with the $20 fee.  If they do not have the application, they can just call or email me. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP! Patricia CampAssistant Region Director262.691.8163nspit99@aol.com
